McDonald's Dulce de Leche McCafe Shake: A Review

If Fujiko can review fast food, I can too!

A few days back, I had the opportunity to indulge in a caramel-laden treat at a Northeast Florida Mickey D's. Gooey yet fluid enough to sip through a straw, this shake sits at the happy intersection of edible and potable. The shake goes heavy on the caramel - it's more of a caramel shake with swirls of vanilla, as opposed to the other way around. The intense caramel flavor is sweet but not cloyingly so, and there's a delicate hint of saltiness. At a cost of $2.59 (correct me if I'm wrong) for a small shake, it's slightly pricier than many of the other McCafe shakes and McFlurry items, although it's worth it if you're in the mood for a change of pace. For those no-fun-allowed types who peek at the nutrition facts, the dessert's 710 calories might be a bit high, although a slender forum administrator can probably handle that now and then. Overall, the Dulce de Leche McCafe Shake is a nice goodie for those looking for something different from the McDonald's menu, and it's a fine subject for a pointless commentary.

The bad part? McDonald's occasionally revives dulce de leche-themed dessert products, but if my Google-based research is accurate, these treats are limited to the South and certain Spanish-speaking countries. So you'll probably have to go down here to get your fill of this tasty eat.

that sounds really familiar actually,
by any chance is it under a different name in English speaking countries?

That's the term they use in Florida. Perhaps it could've been called a "caramel shake" or something along those lines?

Spanish-seeking countries
Seems there are countries looking for more Spanish folks.

On a more serious note, I have never tried anything sweet at a McDonald's since I have only ever eaten there for breakfast. Should I dare try something soon?

If "dulce de leche" and "caramel" can be used interchangably then it is not to be called dulce de leche at all. It tastes different than the usual caramel.

Good news, lucky friends! The Dulce de Leche shake seems to be back, at least at McDonald's locations in Florida and Georgia. I don't know if it's available anywhere else, but if it is, it's worth a try.

The prolonged interest in this topic continues to amuse me. And yes, I did go back and fix the typo about "Spanish-seeking countries."

So what can be superior when compared with paying out half the price for brand name children?

OK... even I'll admit that the Oakland Raiders' performance might be a valid reason to use the interesting words.
