Just about every forum I've seen has a topic about the U.S. presidential election, so I might as well open up this can of worms here too. Please keep any discussion respectful and civil. Gary Johnson and Jill Stein are the only third-party candidates with ballot access in more than a few states, so people like Roseanne (yes, that Roseanne) and Prohibition Party boss Jack Fellure miss the mock ballot.

Personally, I think both Obama and Romney are decent, intelligent men, although there are far stronger candidates for both major parties who opted not to run. It's going to be a very close election, but if I was a bettin' man, I'd pick Obama winning 50-51% of the popular vote.

I dislike all Yankees equally. I'm communistic that way.

Joking aside, while it has very little to do with me, if I was of age and American I would probably go for Obama, simply because one has made less public idiotic comments and actions than the other. As far as I can tell, he's been doing fairly well, and I like his personality.

I'd really love to vote for Jill Stein. I voted for Ralph Nader in 2008, and I'd love to see a shift towards some third parties replacing the main ones but I don't think they'll ever have the power to become one of the major parties and the current system doesn't have the ability to support more than 2 parties very well. I don't think Obama is a great president, or even really a good president. He's about average. He does some cool things but does a lot of things that I suppose you could expect any president to do in his position (drone strikes for example). But you know, America seems to always reach for the bottom when it comes to picking the leader for the country- just think about all the candidates the Republicans brought forth after having a 4 year smear campaign against Obama; Sadly, Romney was the best option they had, and when Romney's the best you have I think it's time to go home and rethink your strategy. Going to lol when Romney loses Massachusetts, that's such a given it's not even funny.

I agree that the presence of a competitive third party would improve the American political scene. It wouldn't fix everything - countries like Greece have six major parties and a far messier political scene than we do - but a few victories from the Libertarians, Greens, or another party not known as the Democrats or Republicans would make the polarized political process more tolerable.

Right now the vote is still "too close to call," with the South and Midwest firmly red, while several highly-populated Yankee states favoring Obama. Both candidates have made some serious mistakes in their campaigns - if Romney had taken a milder stance on immigration, he'd have Florida in the bag, and I think Obama would've done well to embrace the moderate views that won him the White House four years ago, rather than harping on the "class warfare" stuff that's alienated many middle-class voters.

No matter what happens, it's going to be interesting. While neither candidate is the best either party could've put out, America's problems - and strengths - are bigger than a single man, and the sun will still come out tomorrow.

Obama won. Nuff said.

I gotta admit class warfare is a pretty good buzzword. Pretty powerful way of shutting down any chance of discussing wealth inequality in the political arena. Makes me think of how many other important issues get completely shut down simply by the power of a good buzzword or platitude. (its lots of them) Not much is going to be resolved through politics if we can't even talk about the issues. I suppose that's why we have to wait for something to be "politically ready" to be considered a big issue.

I plan on looking into writing to my government officials about the many issues I think are important that just don't get enough coverage during the election cycle (or ever really). I mean heck, remember when climate change was discussed in politics? Where did that go?

Well, I personally was pulling for Romney, but he lost. I'm amazed so many people still voted for Obama, seeing as how unemployment and gas prices (I'm expecting them to skyrocket again within 2 years) have been (and promising he'd have the U.S. Deficit [which is 1/2 way to doubling since he took office] cut in half before his term ended or he wouldn't run again).

But he's our president and I respect him, even if I believe others may be more fit for the job and don't agree with some of his beliefs. I'll survive, as long as he gets the debt cut down ololol we can't expect China to hold those bonds forever can we?
