So I've kind of been going on an anime-watching rampage lately, and somewhere in this rampage, I came across Neon Genesis Evangelion. That's right, Neon Genesis Evangelion.
After finishing it, I did a little bit of reflection - Do I like this anime or not? Well, after a lot of thinking, I... still have no idea. I mean, I really loved the way it skillfully deconstructed it's own genre to create a dark and engaging narrative, the characters were very nice too, and some parts of the experimental way it tackled psychoanalysis were kind of cool, but there were also plenty of things wrong with it. I have sort of a love-hate relationship with this show. But I should stop myself from doing a full-on review of NGE. What I'm getting to is, either way, after finishing it, I felt like crap. NGE is probably one of the most emotionally draining things you could watch. One Youtube commenter summed it up quite nicely: "Neon Genesis Evangelion took my mind virginity."
After a couple of weeks of sort of taking a break from all social interaction, I realized that, "Oh, jeez... is this what everyone goes through after watching this show? There's got to be some way I can help people to get through this quicker!" So I thought and thought, and it hit me - It's time to skewer this series for all it's worth.
This series would best be described as a pool of Nightmare Retardant for EVA fans to soak in - a sort of painkiller, if you will. I also thought that a lot of the comedy could come from the principle that the more serious the source material is, the funnier a parody of it will be. Also, another note - It's sort of a different take on the "abridged series", which is why I call it a "bastardized series" - whereas an abridged series would have to imply that the series was being shortened, a bastardized series would basically only shorten or cut out parts when there's nothing to make fun of, so this would mean that an episode could be half as long or twice as long depending on how much material I have to work with.
Here's a link to the first (and so far only) episode:

Also take note before watching that admittedly some of the jokes in this could be described as "immature" from a certain standpoint.
And one more teensy little thing - for people who haven't seen Evangelion, feel free to watch this, but be warned that there may be premature spoilers. The only really blatant spoiler I can think of in this episode is Rei Ayanami's voice. (Also, it's a lot funnier if you've seen NGE first.

So what do you think of this? I'm really only going to make more of these depending on how well Episode 1 is recieved, so I tried my best to really showcase everything the series has to offer in the first episode. How is my voice acting? ;^^
