you know what im talking about,
<---This

thing is, looking this up seems to turn up either, irrelevant crap, or luigi being in mario 64 crap.

its obviously a sign placeholder text, appears to be written in Japanese,
Any word what this thing actually says?

and i think a more accurate theory for this may have been to be able to read it, like any other sign.

i suppose that it could have been intended for another level, since you jump out of the fountain when you leave the big boo area,
the existence of some functional unused castle stars may support this theory.

any of you have any thoughts on this?

Apparently the same sign is also in Ocarina of Time. I honestly don't think it looks like it says anything, I don't see how people are getting "L is real 2401" from it.

How to get WALUIGI ! ! ^_ ^ this is not fake although it takes a LOT of pratice

character used: ALL

stars needed:151 (i'll tell you how to get the 151st!!) and all mini games

rating: Almost inposible!!

To unlock Waluigi, you first have to get all 150 stars and every mini game. Then, you have to do the next step: You know how in the N64 version of Super Mario 64 DS there is a plaque in Boo Courtyard that says "L is Real 2401?" Well, consider the L upside down because the next step is to make add up the coin records for each level. If the total is less than 2401, you'll have to increase the total until it reaches 2401. If it goes over 2401, you'll have to start the whole game over if you want Waluigi. If it's exactly 2401, you'll be able to get Waluigi by following the next few steps. The next step is to go lose your caps. Mario has to lose his cap by being mugged by Klepto in Shifting Sand Land. Luigi has to lose his cap by being mugged by Ukiki on Tall Tall Mountain. Wario has to lose his cap by being blown by ths snowman in Snowman's Land. Once everyone is capless, go to Boo Courtyard as yoshi. You'll then see that the star on the fountain is gone and that it was replaced with a ? block. Hit it to get a Waluigi cap. Then, put it on and go to the mirror room where you unlocked Wario. You'll see that the power flowers are still there. Take one and you'll gain the ability to see secrets in the castle. Now, go to the door to the lobby. Instead of going through it, triple jump over it and you'll end up ripping a curtain that hides a hole. Go through the hall that the curtain hid and then you'll end up outside in front of the cannon. Launch yourself from the cannon and aim at the giant picture of peach. When you hit it, you'll be on a ledge. Then, a message will appear saying that you need 151 stars to go through the secret door. Get another Power Flower and head to Boo Courtyard You'll see that the star on the shrine is a real star. Get it, take another power flower, and go back to the cannon. Launch yourself at the "picture" of Peach and it will open. At the end of the hallway, there is a picture of Waluigi. Go through it to enter the Pirhana Pit. You'll need to take damage when you first enter because you need every character to complete this level. If you make it to the end, you'll fight a really REALY big Pirhana Plant. Beat it to get a key with an upside down L. Then you need toSave, end the game and when you come back on go into the room with the luigi Mario and wario doors on it and the white room door will be waluigi's( if you have not got the white room star then get it befor you unlock him)

Waluigi's speicial move:

power flower: he can run at a astonishing speed and cover long distanses in a matter of seconds(great for racing koopa quick)

Natural ability: He can Jump Mega high

Ataking move: this is why you want waluigi, his ataking move is when you pres A he spins round and puts his arm in the air making lightning come down and it kill every thing around him for about one meater in front of him (to scale)

Hee hee. I remember wondering about that sign when I first played SM64 back in the 90's... even if I didn't think there was any special significance to the letters even then.
Course clear! You got a card.

It's funny, I found my old copy of Super Mario 64 a few weeks (or maybe months) ago and just started playing it again a couple days prior to this topic's creation.

Anyway, I honestly don't think that sign was meant to be read.
Just for decoration, y'know?

I've heard a few people claim it says "Eternal Star", though.
Which, honestly, makes loads more sense than "L is real 2401".

If it is anything (which it's entirely likely they just drew some stuff that looks like letters), it's certainly not meant to be read. I wouldn't worry too much about it, i'm sure even Nintendo no longer has what this was without the blurryness.
