April 14 is the date of an informal Korean holiday, called Black Day. Valentine's Day, February 14, is a day for girls to show their love to boys through candy and such, and White Day, March 14, is the day when boys give stuff to the girls.
All well and good, but what if you're a lonely spinster like myself? "Obligation chocolate" from classmates and co-workers can only go so far...
So, in Korea, singles get their own holiday! It's called Black Day.

On this day, single people who didn't get things on the other 14ths go to bars and restaurants to eat noodles and cry about their lack of achievement!
The noodles are called jajangmyeon, and they are one of the national dishes of Korea. The closest comparison I could make that would be familiar is spaghetti. The black sauce is made from soybeans, and it's quite thick and salty.

Even if there are no places to eat jajangmyeon where you live, know that there is a holiday for single people at least. Well, I know what I'm going to have for dinner. ;_;
