Again, Mitch, fear not! The magic of routine hard-drive backups seems to have saved the day once more.
Course clear! You got a card.

...

Would you please stop bumping this? It's not here yet, and until Miles doesn't give any more info on this, you shouldn't be expecting it to ever be finished.

Seems the game is forever cancelled. But while you're looking at this topic, you might as well take the chance to check out this other game I made.

...And by "forever cancelled" I mean I'm going to surprise everyone with this game at some point in the late future.

If at any point I announce another cancellation or start to prove that it's going to happen again, you best send some angry words my way. This needs to exist. It has to.

Right now the future actually looks good for this project. I've got everything planned out (except for level layouts), none of which would be sitting in plan files if I could not plausibly do it. The engine is being made based on the plans rather than me just making it up as I go and is working perfectly so far, so I have high hopes for that. If this gets done it'll hopefully be the first project I complete that I actually like. This is the only thing I've ever worked on that I haven't lost any motivation to continue. And it's been like 3 and a half months since it started!

This game is going to be what I imagined when I tried making a "Just For Fun" the first two times, that being a game with both a story half and a fighty half. Focus will be on the story half, though it will be short.

Plans in a nutshell for Super Adventure Bros. (the story half):
- Upon beating it you'll be able to play a harder version as custom Bros.
- There are 2 phases with 8 levels each.
- If you get game over, you start the phase over and lose all of a special collectable 'thing'.
-- If on phase 2, you get the option to start completely over. You'll want those 'things'.
- Each non-boss level will have big sparkly coins. Get 'em all for special event on level end.

Code is already in place to make all of those ideas work. I just need to make the levels and get the Bro-swap code in place and then I'll be good.

Plans in a nutshell for Super Battle Bros. 2 (you guess what half that is):
- Initial lack of much to do. To unlock game modes and Co-Op missions* you...
-- Beat story levels and bosses.
-- Beat special stages and collect special 'things.'

* I will probably scrap that idea in favor of actually getting this game done this lifetime... that and I probably couldn't make fun AI for the ideas I had for those anyway.

Miscellaneous plans: (things marked with a + are done)
- Music Editor for custom music (can't save selections because GM:S, but oh well) +
- Awards Box, for tracking your unlocks. Totally not achievements.
- Custom Bros for use in both Story Plus and Super Battle Bros. 2.
- Random Bros for use by AI characters. They'll have random names every match too. +
- Secretly be a Sonic game in disguise, secretly.
- Troll the living mess out of the player.
-- Fake game over screens.
-- Unreachable Yoshis. (because I'm a jerk)
-- Other fun things that would scare or annoy you.
- Have varied game overs and deaths in the style of those from random series.
-- Battlefield 3 "YOUR TEAM LOST!" grey-out-then-fade-to-next-screen effect for game over. +
-- Megaman explosion death.
-- Sonic (any Genesis game) Game Over text that flies in. +
-- Contra backflip and sound death. (...if I can find the sound)
-- Classic Super Mario Bros. GAME OVER screen. +
-- Perhaps more.

This looks overly ambitious but I already have a good chunk of the engine for it done, and what isn't done I know exactly how to do with ease. I can safely say that there is no reason that this shouldn't happen. I wasn't going to make this post until I was sure that I could do this.

Screenies:

-Title card test. Nothing special.

-The game has a pause menu. Behind it is a Team Battle test with 3 teams.

-Event feed for defeated Bros. We don't kill Bros around here; we merely defeat them. (Can be set to one line only or turned off.)

-I was fairly faithful with recreating this whole effect other than the wording, including the level itself greying out and muting other sounds before fading to this.

So yeah. This is still a thing.

Awesome! This is a thoroughly groovy thing to hear.

Miles
a game with both a story half and a fighty half.

I like the word "fighty." I should find a way to incorporate it into my daily existence.

Now, witness the firepower of this fully armed and operational music editor.

Dislike my music choices? You probably will, so you can fix that yourself with this here thing.

As you can easily (and probably painfully) tell, lookin' good is certainly not a priority yet. That won't come until waaay down the line. Right now it just needs to work. And it does! It does so perfectly, save for GM:S not letting me let you load custom tracks from the game folder. Darn that. That's just been fixed. Sort of. More like worked around. But it's still a thing.
