Firefight - a First Person Shooter, Halo and Doom ripoff/tribute game thing

As some of you may know, I've been working on a first person shooter for a few months. It's really nothing more than a little thing I work on and play just for the heck of it. It's a bit of a learning experience if nothing else.

Features:
...Well, there's a lot. I can't really make a list of them. I can, however, describe a few important details relating to gameplay.

Powered Shields. You have a layer of protection from gunfire that prevents you from taking damage for as long as it has enough power. While it does protect you from most forms of gunfire, it does not make you invincible. Every time you are attacked, it loses power. Some stuff can knock it down in one hit, such as explosions, melee attacks and sniper rounds. When the power is low enough, any damage sustained just as it is being knocked out will be slightly softened but it will bleed through to your health. It automatically recharges after three seconds of not taking any damage.

Reticle Bloom. You know that thing in the middle of the screen that shows what you're aiming at? Well, for most weapons, it will expand to show you exactly how wild your shots will be spraying. Every time you shoot, it expands a little, showing that your accuracy has decreased a bit. It recovers quickly, though - every moment you're not firing, your shooting accuracy goes back up.

Weapons:
Some of these behave differently, depending on the behavior mode set for them in the game menus.

Magnum:
Behavior Mode 0: Five shot kill, if the last shot is a headshot. Effective at close to medium range, the latter only if you can pace your shots as to not spray wildly. There are 8 shots per clip.
Behavior Mode 1: Eight shot kill, if the last shot is a headshot. This variant of the pistol has a higher rate of fire, but no problems at all with shots going wild; however there is a bit of an upwards jump when shooting. There are 12 shots per clip.

Assault Rifle:
Behavior Mode 0: Sixteen shots to kill. Effective at close to medium range. There are 32 shots per clip.
Behavior Mode 1: Twenty-two shots to kill. This variant of the assault rifle sprays big time, but it shoots rather fast, and is a punishing gun up close. There are 60 shots per clip.

Marksman Rifle:
Behavior Mode 0: Five shot kill, if the last shot is a headshot. Extremely effective at medium range, if you can pace your shots as to not spray wildly.
Behavior Mode 1: Six shot kill, if the last shot is a headshot. This variant of the rifle has a special explosive poison injection ability. Unshielded enemies that are shot three times will explode.

Battle Rifle: Four bursts to kill, assuming each bullet makes its mark. This rifle fires only in three-bullet bursts. Does best when at close or medium range. There are 36 bullets (12 bursts) per clip.

Shotgun: Amount of shots it takes to kill depends on how far you are from your target - the least required is one, at very close range. This weapon will blow an enemy to bits if close enough. There are 8 shots per load.

Sniper Rifle: Two shots to kill, or one if you get a headshot. This rifle is the most effective when at long range. This weapon is strong enough to knock an enemy's head straight off, and each shot will keep going until it hits a wall. There are 4 shots per clip. Aim-assist is disabled for this weapon.

Grenade Launcher: This weapon will launch a special grenade. The way it behaves depends on when you let go of the trigger. If you let go immediately after firing, it will explode on impact with an enemy, and set nearby enemies on fire. If you wait to let go, the grenade will link with your weapon - when you do let go of the trigger, the grenade will release an EMP blast, knocking out any shields and blowing up anything close enough to it. You can carry a max of 5 of these special grenades.

GameTypes:

Slayer: If playing alone, try to get a set number of kills before you run out of lives. If playing against the AI Player 2, try to get a set number of kills before Player 2 does.

SWAT: Slayer variant. No shields. Lots of headshots.

Sticky Time: Slayer variant. The only way to get rid of your enemies is by sticking grenades to them. The same applies to you - you only die if a grenade has been stuck to you. The AI are really good at sticking you, and will go nuts if you get them first.

Survival: Get as many kills as you can until you run out of lives.

Conquest: Versus mode only. The human and AI player form squads with soldiers to attempt to take control of every area of the map. Each area is marked with a Command Post, which is where a team will spawn in. To capture, clear out all opposition and stand near it until the area is secured and its team mark changes. The game is won when one team runs out of reinforcements (shared lives between a player and his soldier/demon buddies) or one team controls every area.

Characters:

Noble: This is the character assigned to the player. This guy's color is green. He lets his actions speak rather than forming words.

Miles: Yep, me. I'm a character in this game. This guy's color is purple. He is seen with either an Assault Rifle or a Marksman Rifle. He's the most gentle of all the characters.

Matt: This guy's color is red. He is only seen with a Marksman Rifle. He's a serious threat to any unshielded foe. He is especially deadly when he's paired with another Marksman Rifle user.

Harkinian: Surely you've heard of that King guy from the Zelda CD-i games, right? Well, he makes an appearance here, and is a serious potty mouth. This guy's color is gold. He is only seen with a Shotgun. He's the most meanest of all the characters, but is only really a threat when up close.

Angry Nerd: James Rolfe's character also makes an appearance here. He, like Harkinian, has a real dirty mouth. This guy's color is blue. He is only seen with an Assault Rifle.

Screenshots:
#1. Shown is the HUD when with a squad. That Matt is done for!
#2. A squad consisting of the player and four Blue Team guys has just captured a command post in Conquest mode.
#3. The AI player (Player 2) got me. This tends to happen quite a bit.
#4. The Blue team, sitting in an attack pack, shooting at some Reds after witnessing a couple of goofs. None of them notice that they're about to get eaten.
#5. The remainder of the standing Red Team attempts to form up so they can get back at the Blue team - their game is not going well.
#6. Reds go running as I fire EMP nades their way. Me and a Blue Harkinian were making an attempt to take over that territory.

...
Well, that's not everything, but that is a big chunk of what I've got so far. Any thoughts or suggestions?

My experience with FPS games is rather limited, but this sounds rather interesting. I'd feel more remorse about shooting a palette-swapped Miles than an angry video game nerd or a Zelda CD-I monarch, however...

Serious swear warning! I can put up a video later on without the characters that have swears in their lines if you want.

Anyway, this shows some parts of what I've got so far. Many frames were dropped while recording - it's pretty smooth when playing it. What do you think?

I'm not well-versed when it comes to FPS games, but this looks quite polished.

You could add an option to remove voices containing swears.
