So I was told a few days ago that Mozilla is rolling out another new version of Firefox, and when I get on this morning, I see the new update's already been installed. Firefox was still on 3.x just a few months ago, and now it's 6.0 and I can't notice anything new, other than a bunch of broken add-ons. I have a really hard time seeing the point of these jumps, especially since the last one (5.0) was slower and glitchier than 3.
Course clear! You got a card.

So, I guess I should stick with what I have at the moment.
I myself see the massive version number jumps as to say, "Hey, we might have broken an add-on here or there (sorry about that), but X feature(s) is now better!" --- Edited by: Miles, Aug 24th, 2011 @ 8:54 am |

Did Mozilla release Firefox 4, 5, and 6 all in 2011? Ugh.
Also, when it comes to XPI add ons/extensions not being compatible, here's a neat trick: 1.) Download the XPI file (I guess right-click, save target as) 2.) It's an archive. Extract it with 7-zip (or the archive manager of your choice.) 3.) Open "install.rdf" with Notepad (or the text editor of your choice.) 4.) Change the numbers in any line that looks like "maxversion:3.9.*" to some absurdly high number like "9.*.*" 5.) Send it back to a zip archive but name it ".xpi" instead of ".zip"] 6.) Drag and drop your new XPI onto a blank Firefox window. 7.) This really solves it. Disclaimer: I'm not responsible for any add-ons that had a "good reason not to be compatible" but I haven't run into a single problem running ancient add-ons. Maxes me wonder why they max out the version at all. 8.) Alternate method: Wait until the maker of your add-on makes it compatible. --- Edited by: Puddin, Aug 24th, 2011 @ 10:44 am |
