A certain Finn has joined in on the recent torrent of "fangames" of the Waligie series. Does Waligie: President Evil measure up to the other recent efforts from the likes of Thunder Dragon and Techokami? Well, let's just see!

Pros
+ It's Waligie
+ Funny dialogue
+ Includes an alternate ending

Cons
- Somewhat unbalanced difficulty
- I don't like the walls of text in some dialogue sections
- Secret ending may not be quite as impressive as you'd expect

Gameplay: 6/10
It's a Waligie game, sure, so what do you expect? Besides the intentionally-glitchy engine and outlandish scenarios, you probably anticipate it to be difficult and frustrating. The difficulty is actually toned down considerably in comparison to most of the Waligie games, although it's still annoying at times, especially in the spike level. However, a lot of the game is actually rather easy by traditional Waligie standards - I would've liked to see more of the really crazy, convoluted levels that have become the signature of the older Waligie games. Still, the SMB 1 parody level was priceless for its utter zaniness, and I actually loved the gravity spike level, even though it felt more like a level in a Roo game than a traditional Waligie level.

The story is typically Waligie-ish, and it's not terribly coherent - which is exactly the way you'd want it. The dialogue is quite funny (with plenty of gems like "but we did most of the work and you lazied"), although I wish the later text was displayed a single line at a time instead of an entire dialogue appearing as a wall of text, which dampened the comic effect at times.

Graphics: 7/10
As with previous entries in this series, it's hard to give anything resembling an objective score in the graphics category, since the visuals in all Waligie games are intentionally terrible (source). You get everything you'd expect: Poorly-cropped photos from Google Images, Look At My Goomba Sprites-grade MS Paint sprites, and just a teensy-tiny bit of graphics clashing. In short, the graphics are intentionally ridiculous and usually feel faithful to the series.

One minor problem is a lot of the later backgrounds - specifically, the European grocery store - contrast poorly with the blue text, making the dialogue difficult to read at times. Another problem is the game's resolution, which sometimes causes a certain degree of blurriness.

Sound and Music: 7/10
Roo does some smart things with music and sound, whether it's including the beloved "BLAHST" sound effect or referencing the anguished cries of those condemned to an eternity spent with supermarket products. There's a "nice" selection of music as well. While Roo includes some famous instances of popular music, like Michael Jackson music and the theme from The X-Files, I still think the whole thing would've been better with an ABBA song or two.

One complaint, however: While I could've sworn the lyrics were "Ninjas stole my bike," rather than a weak euphemism for the N-word, I'm still not sure if the original Waligie creators would've included a racially-tinged meme.

Replay: 6/10
I'm a big enough fan of the Waligie series to find some replay value out of any Waligie game. While there aren't the branching paths of some of the recent Waligie games, there is a secret ending for those who accomplish three objectives. I'm not sure whether I'm the only person to have found this "sekret endig" yet.

Final: 7/10
It's yet another Waligie game, and if you're a fan of this sort of thing, you should give it a go!
Course clear! You got a card.
