So my dad had a phone line installed today, and he went got a fax machine specifically for it. Unable to contain his excitement, he called one of the guys he works for to request that he send him a fax to make sure the thing works. You know what the guy sent him?
...A middle finger. Yeah, he wasn't all that happy, it appears. Rude, indeed, but hey, it works.
Have any of you ever had to use fax for something?

I guess that's one way to do it...
Sure, fax isn't flashy, but it isn't dead at all. Quite a few employers prefer job applicants to fax resumes and cover letters. And I had to use the ol' facsimile machine to send quite a few different kinds of educational red tape over the course of the past month.

I've never used a fax machine. My dad has, though, so I'm relevant to this topic by association.
Anything I need to tell someone I can email or tell them in person. IM or phone are also acceptable methods if the person isn't picky. |

You can scan anything and send it as an email. I used to fax and work but that was it, haven't used it for years. |

I agree. Fax is not entirely needed most of the time, since most businesses and schools that I know of have internet-connected computers of some kind and scanners/printers to go with them.
Some folks just happen to prefer fax, usually because either they find it more convenient for their situation or they can't get with the times. |

Interestingly, whenever I've faxed something for school, those documents have always been processed faster than those delivered by mail or even in person. So in some situations, fax works very well.

My mother used it a lot as an apartment manager.
