These were the first games I ever programmed on my own, way back in April 2006. Yes, I did use the QBASIC program that came with my old CompuAdd 386 running DOS 5. Back in 2006, I had recently backed up the defunct PC's hard drive, and I did some fun shenanigans running QBASIC in Windows 98 (which was hardly the most modern operating system even in 2006).
Even if you don't have any way to run the .BAS files, you can still open them using Notepad if you need proof that I did zany things with programming in 2006. Some things don't change.

if these will work with 6.22, i'll drop these on a floppy disk and run them on my 486 laptop when i get the chance. basic coding is something i'm quite jealous of about the previous generation of computer gearheads

These applications would probably work on 6.22. Please let me know when you get a chance to try them. That sounds fun.

Neat stuff here, man!
I've never seen anything that was actually programmed in QBASIC. |

Is it cool for me to bump a topic that's 10 years old?
If so, I just gave these a shot in one of my DOS VMs. I got a laugh out of them for sure. I don't grok QBASIC, but that's okay because they were really d*** easy to run once I had it up. Was using an emulated 386DX-33MHz Amstrad MegaPC with 16MB RAM running DOS 6.22. I'm pretty sure a real MegaPC came with a Sega Genesis built into it, so maybe we could say I ported these games to the Genesis or something.

Ha, no worries at all - it's fun that this topic is getting some love for its tenth birthday!
It's good to know that these old programs are working for you - the only place I've ever tested them was on that Windows 98 PC where I copied over a DOS 5 version of QBASIC, which is an admittedly weird setup. --- Edited by: Bibby, May 21st, 2025 @ 1:56 am

What version of QBASIC would that be? My DOS 6.22 setup on this VM came with QBASIC v1.1, I think.
Is PICTURES.BAS supposed to crash to the editor whenever I pick an option?

No, Pictures.BAS isn't supposed to crash after picking an option.
I'm not sure which version of QBASIC I used, but I know it was the one that came with DOS 5.

Then we can just chalk this up to a compatibility issue with DOS 6.22. Or at least with whichever QBASIC version I have on my VM
