It seems like everyone ever just loves "wubs" - or that *pump* noise you get when you have a bass-boosted audio system, and there's just no escape from it. No matter what, there's always going to be someone nearby with something blasting at full power.

But what do I think? The not-ignorable sensation I get in my chest, the instant loss of everything I was just thinking about that happens as a result of said sensation, and the soon following inability to think rationally after repeated instances of it makes me a very violent and unreasonable individual - which is definitely not like me to be. So I think it's reasonable for me to hate it.

What about that stupid sensation do people like so friggin' much?

Yeah, loud music and exaggerated bass are indeed annoying, especially when I'm in the car and I have little escape.

I've thought about compiling a CD full of polka music and playing it as loud as my ears can handle in situations like this. I'd love to see the look on people's faces when they hear Slavko Avsenik, Frankie Yankovic, or Steve Huber & the Happy Austrians blasting from my stereo. On the other hand, that might not be the best idea, considering some of these people are armed and are willing to shoot people for almost any reason.

To be blunt:
I have no godd***ed idea!

I've been stuck watching the car in a parking lot before, when some jerk pulls there giant subwoofer on wheels up right next to me, blaring out bad rap music at full blast!
To make matters worse, they LEAVE THEIR STEREO ON WHEN THEY LEAVE THE CAR, AND ENTER THE BUILDING!

Just one of those things I don't think that I'll ever understand.

Some bass is needed in music, lest you get the sensation that you are bleeding to death (Brutal legend played that well)
But too much bass will cause the foundation of the music to crumble, leaving you with nothing more than a distorted mess.

I don't like extremely loud bass that shakes the whole car, but I definitely do like to hear the bass pretty well at normal volumes. Being a musician (and my first instrument being drums), I really appreciate it when the bass is turned up enough that I can hear the bass drum well, or the bass guitar. It's just nice for me to hear it, and it helps me try to learn the song if I ever want to play it.

I personally think that people riding around with blaring rap music and shaky bass is a fad though.

is this related to the phenomenon of people listening to music on their phones without earphones so that it's audible to everyone around? if so, i don't like either phenomenon.

and this is coming from someone who actually likes rap, no less. who gave whoever's doing this the authority to decide what sort of music i'll listen to at a given moment? if i wanted to hear this, i'd be listening to it on my own ipod

Part of it is psychological.

Bass has been shown to increase confidence and inhibit insecurity.


Maybe it sings to the frontal cortex.
