so i'm selling this psp game on ebay, and the thing goes for like five bucks. i sell it to someone in new mexico and don't hear anything for a couple of days. now, the person has a hispanic sounding name, so i assumed that english wouldn't be their first language, but what i got was pretty much incomprehensible. i showed it to bibby, and he said i ought to post it here, so here goes.
buyer: No the game works. Starts and stops. I await your response.
me: if it's broken, do you just want me to give you your money back?
buyer :Not broken, just stops when you open the game, does not work.
me, in my head: that's what i meant, godd***it!
me, in my next message: yeah, that's what i meant. i don't know what's causing that. should i just give you your money back for it, since you can't play it?
buyer: Tell me to address you sent the item.
me, in my head: ... huh?
me, in my next message: do you mean what address i sent this game from, or what address i sent the game to?
buyer: Sorry but the article still does not work. So please indicate which direction it sent the article.
after this, i just decided that i was chasing my own tail on this, and gave them their money back. i told them to keep the game, because $5 for a mediocre psp game isn't worth it
what the hell did i do to get someone as incomprehensible as this? i can tell they're doing google translate or whatever else, but even given that, i can't make sense of it.

Here is what I gather from this:
The game is skipping in random intervals, and/or suffering random crashes. (on boot or during gameplay) This might not be your fault, as this is most often caused by the lazer diode burning out, or severe dust buildup. (Disc scratches, and fingerprints are also a possibility, though PSP discs are pretty well shielded.) Skipping can also be caused by messing with parts of a softmod that you don't fully understand. CPU clock cycles would be the big culprit here, as in addition to being able to overclock, you can also underclock. Some games also suffer this by trait of how they were made. What was the game? In the end, you probably did the right thing. eBay's policys can make it a pain to properly help somebody, and are quite draconian, favoring the buyer, over the seller. --- Edited by: The_Shadow, Jul 12th, 2014 @ 8:12 am |

Ebay person So please indicate which direction it sent the article.I love everything about this quote. It's probably best that you gave her (him?) a refund. $5 isn't worth the amount of time you spent dealing with them, even if it did make for a thoroughly interesting conversation.
Course clear! You got a card.

nite, from what little i could comprehend in that conversation with them, that seems like the most likely culprit. given that this game is in japanese, i had to pull the .iso off the disc to apply a translation patch to it, and it worked fine for me. i never tried to boot it directly from the xmb, but given that it's a psp game, i seriously doubt that there's any form of region locking on the disc.
however, if working at a grocery store has taught me anything, it's that customer service means people expect to treat the seller however the hell they want without any fear of retaliation. i mean, i'm pretty sure they're gonna get p***ed off at me cos i decided to refund them and be done with it. i'm anticipating negative feedback because i'm not a tech support guy, but if they open a case against me, i'm gonna be really mad
