Yes, I did hook up another old monitor to my older computer when its monitor blew up earlier this month, but the replacement died earlier today, perishing with a poof of smoke but without that frequently-encountered burnt electrical smell. This monitor had been exhibiting signs of early stages of mental illness for years, occasionally popping and flashing for no very good reason, and it was indeed eight and a half years old, but still - now I'm up to five dead monitors in the past decade. Surely I must now be worthy of a bronze plaque of a broken CRT monitor or something.

You are a terror to technology. Stop it. Stop it at once! Even if it's not your fault that the monitors are dying of old age, I still demand that you cease your murderous ways!
That gave me an idea for a drawing competition: The theme would be unusual trophies/awards, an example of which being that bronze busted-up-CRT-monitor plaque. Too bad there's not that many folks to participate in such a thing... at least not yet. --- Edited by: Miles, May 27th, 2011 @ 10:36 pm |

I'll probably go buy an old monitor at a thrift shop or something later. It will likely cower in fear at my mere presence and require me to speak to it in the softest, gentlest tones at all times.
That would be a fun idea, though I was planning to wait until Blue Guy returns and Fujiko gets more time on her hands before I start a drawing competition. --- Edited by: Bibby, May 28th, 2011 @ 7:56 am

Yes, every young monitor's worst nightmare.
Actually, I just went to a garage sale a block away and bought an old HP Pavilion monitor from a Nigerian guy for $15. It's a tad bulkier than an LCD monitor, but the display looks good and was easy enough on the ol' wallet.
