I've never used Yahoo Answers before, but occasionally I've clicked on Answers topics when searching for things on Google. Every time I've made the mistake of clicking on Yahoo Answers, 90% of the answers are either troll posts, uninformed guesses, or blatantly inaccurate information. The other 10% are things you could easily find through a Google search.

Some of the questions are pretty dumb, too, like the stereotypical relationship question, which is, without fail, devoid of grammar:

Composite of typical Yahoo Answers users
im 15 and my bf is 27 hes in a motorcycle gain and drinks a bottle of royal crown every day mom cant stand him cuz hes been arrested six times for beating up woman but hes sooooooooooooo cute and i love him so much what do i do

Or this actual question, which someone actually posted:

I guess there are people on this planet who are too lazy to find information themselves and always want to rely on someone else for information, but sometimes it amazes me just how dumb people are.
Course clear! You got a card.

Well, how else would we know about George Washington's mummy?

Come on man, this stuff is important.

Yahoo Answers could be useful for getting opinions on things; like whether or not to see a doctor, or whether or not something is legally sound, since things like that can often best be decided on an individual basis.

Note that I said *could*... most people on Yahoo Answers are trolls, or assume they know the answer without proper research.

You can often find multiple-choice virtual school assignments that people posted on there and others would give the answers for them. That's useful, but not exactly helpful.

I think that it exists now as basically a forum; a specific format people have grown accustomed to for discussion. I got into it during a couple of very short periods, and the community interaction I saw there was similar to that which you'd see at a place like 4chan (but less inappropriate).

I don't know why. The most stupid answers I have heard are like "look in google". Isn't it so obvious?

I wonder if Yahoo Answers has changed the world in a negative way.

I've used it successfully for academics in the past. Some of those guys gave me great answers w/ accounting problems I couldn't figure out.
