Flying the wife down to Tampa next month for a girl's trip. Looking for a hotel on the beach. My buddy who's familiar with the area says that Siesta Key is the place to be. Looks like mostly pricey resorts down there.
Looking for anything that is close to the water and shopping and not exorbitantly priced.

I live in Jacksonville, which is pretty far from Tampa, so I'm not an expert on the area. However, if you don't mind driving north up the Gulf Coast, Cedar Key is a fantastic place to visit. Because it's not as big and famous as many of Florida's other beaches, it's laidback and inexpensive, and it hasn't been overwhelmed by traffic and tacky touristy things.
Course clear! You got a card.
