In some cases I would suggest that is is marketing.

A subtle or blatant association to something that is popular can help sell things.

At the very least if you have a look that has proven to draw attention you can expect your (whatever it is) will draw attention.


It worked... look there was an article, it has been forwarded here, and we are discussion it.

It got our attention...mission accomplished.

Hey, Disney was very open about the Jungle Book having such a short turnaround they re-used a lot of assets.. that movie is still amazing. "I Wanna Be Like You" is as euphoric a blend of music and animation as there ever has been (and good to see the tradition is alive and well with "Let It Go" from Frozen)

An interesting read. Some of these are merely coincidence, or graphics designers using effective ideas in similar ways. Others appear to be ripoffs of the most shameless variety.
