Immediately after I finished the minigame, a piece of text appeared, and the game crashed. Do keep in mind that porting a game to Studio is likely to introduce new glitches and instability.

Might be a Windows 8 stability issue. Game Maker 8 hates Win 8. I'll try to remove sound at that section.

Most of my GM 8 games work fine in Windows 8.1. The only time I've had problems is when a game plays multiple instances of the sound. Try adding a "if ! sound_isplaying(snd_name)" test before a problematic sound plays, and beware of objects that create multiple instances of an object that plays a sound in its Create event (for example, a cannon that shoots bullets in both directions).
