If you dont know, I'm learning more about my own cynicism.

A certain degree of cynicism is necessary to maintain our bearings in a world where things aren't always as rosy as people would like us to believe. A healthy dose of cynicism helps us realize that TV ads full of smiling supermodels might not be a realistic depiction of people who use a certain product, or that the latest blustery politician or law might not actually cure poverty, crime, or other social ills.

On the other hand, more extreme cynicism can harden us so much that we lose the desire to improve the things that we're cynical about, creating a vicious cycle of disillusionment. Overcoming naivete is a sign of maturity, but too much cynicism can pretty much destroy your life.

i think bibby and i are on the same mental track here.

i once had a friend who said, and i quote, "optimism is for idiots." i couldn't disagree any more forcefully with what he said. i'm coming from a christian worldview, so i don't think people are good by nature, and i expect them to do bad things because of that. well, not all the time, but you get what i'm saying. i've seen too much bad to want to believe otherwise.

still, given that, i'm sometimes left off guard by how... well, beautiful life is. i'm not quite sure how to describe it; i think it's the little things. friends, fun times, music, video games, things like that. that might seem like a very small reason to live life, but the fact is there's too much in this world i enjoy.

I do acknowledge that Cynicism can alienate me from a lot of people, but Cynicism is essential in this day and age to survive the evils of society.
