DRM is no new thing either,
Its been used on audio CD's movies and video games, for years.

Its a real shame what will become of this stuff once the technology is gone.

I'd be inclined to agree with that assessment! The problem with DRM and its cousins is that it's often extremely annoying to legitimate users, yet it does nothing to thwart the hardcore counterfeiters that really do cost content producers millions of dollars, especially in China and other countries where censorship and other factors make it impossible for people to get the products they want through normal channels.

I doubt biometric DRM will be implemented any time soon, but that is still seriously creepy. You know, game companies could spend their money on developing innovative games and well-made, affordable systems that people want to play, instead of playing an Orwellian chase against nerdy teens who are sure to find a way to circumvent whatever controls they develop.

On the note of serial keys though,
Ive actually purchased PC games from walmart with faulty reg-keys.

the local walmart in my area does not accept returns on Laser media. (CD's, DVD's, Blurays, ect.)
