I think it should be regulated and taxed like alcohol. It would also have the side effect of getting the hippies in the BC NDP satisfied so real issues can be worked on...

It generates review, legalization would lessen the costs for the judicial system, and the government is already invasive enough.

Tyrone knows, my vice comes in bottles but if people can attain guns with relative ease (and I don't care who owns guns.... gun owners tend to kill other gun owners)why are people going to jail for herb?

The real question you should be asking about interment is why is the Judicial Branch of thes US government using dispoportionate sentencing against criminals who smoke it, some of whom who do not comittrd violent crimes or be part of a gang?

I couldn't agree more.

I can't believe it. Progress is being made in my state with regards to public opinion.

Now let's talk about the economic implications of marijuana.

(sorry, I'm not educated enough to comment on it economically, other than to say I've heard plenty about it being a big money maker for the government if they were to tax it, and rumors that it has already literally gotten Colorado out of debt)

I think that it should be legalized. And even if not, I think it's a really bad idea to bunch all drugs up into one big category of "drugs". It's crazy for them to "educate" students by telling them about how dangerous "drugs" are, but include marijuana in that list. Cocaine, crack, heroin, lsd, those are all dangerously addictive and bad for your health, but marijuana doesn't really have any short term, and probably very few long term, dangers health-wise or even otherwise.

I agree with that as well. However, I would guard against lumping LSD is with the other three.

Also, I doubt LSD is addictive.

Ah right, I don't think LSD is addictive. But while you're high it can definitely be dangerous because of the hallucinations you have.

And flashbacks are scary; LSD gets stored in your fat tissue and when you burn off that fat, you get high off of that excess LSD unexpectedly.

I think all drugs should be legal for persons over 18 and the government should have no say what adults choose to put into their own bodies (and if it's illegal for minors, any laws should be pretty lax, especially for teens.) I had this opinion even before I ever tried weed. However, I'm fine with programs teaching children the dangers of effects of drugs. But "you will go to jail" is not a compelling argument for the morality of something.

Even though I support drug legalization, I also think people should be charged with whatever-while-intoxicated crimes for committing crimes while under the influence of drugs, and it shouldn't be legal to drive while high.

It really scares me that a lot of people think cannabis doesn't affect driving skills. Have you ever been in a car with someone who smokes weed? "It helps me concentrate, brah *runs stop sign* " I know that's anecdotal but whatever. Maybe SOME PEOPLE don't have their driving impaired while on weed (although I haven't seen any evidence supporting that) but IMO there's really no reason to allow it if it can put other people in danger.

On another anecdotal note, the few people I know who smoke weed and drive are also the type of people who text message while driving.

this, extremely. off-topic, but jail is an extremely horrible idea in a lot of cases. Perfectly good people can end up there for mistakes and, depending how bad the crime is considered (if it's a felony or not, for example) can have them marked for life as a felon or at least a convict.

Jail should be for dangerous people, not for people who are only dangerous to themselves or to not anyone really.

I think I can confirm this; I've ridden with people who were smoking and it didn't seem to impair them really (though it was a short distance)
